January 23 2012 meeting

David Adams spoke about the current issues in Kentucky government.  The most critical issue is the debt that we are accumulating.  In 2011 we hit a record for debt accumulation at $908 million.  We have $30 billion of underfunding of our pension system, and we get farther behind every year.  The state’s extremely generous pension plan is unsustainable and is leading us to bankruptcy.

Mike Harmon has filed a state debt ceiling bill HB 108, and Joe Bowen has filed Senate Bill 56, which would provide some help in limiting government expenditures.

Part of Obamacare is for the states to create Health Insurance Exchanges, which will allow the federal government to shift the blame and responsibility to the states.  The Kentucky legislature does not want to pass a law to create these exchanges, so Gov. Beshear is trying to do it by executive order.

If you want to make a difference, one of the most important things you can do is participate in your political party’s reorganization elections, which will take place on March 17.  You need to know your precinct and find your meeting.  If you bring a few friends to the meeting, you probably can get yourself elected.  Go to your party’s web site to find out more information.

David said we should take advantage of social networking, Facebook, etc. to spread information.

After David’s talk, we had our usual one-minute announcements:

Tomas Mauricio announced that he has a radio show, organized under AdvocatesForAmerica.us.  He is a constitutionalist and is looking for people to help sponsor his program.  He is currently on 90.7 FM at 6 am Paris, KY; 1230 AM at 11:00 am Danville KY, 1420AM, 2 pm Harrodsburg KY, and 1110 AM at 3 pm, Richmond KY.

Dave Glauber announced that he will be a candidate for KY State Rep from a new district that has been created in Bullitt County.
